EA Will Continue to Develop Star Wars Games as the Franchise License Expands
3 days ago - By PlayStation LifeStyle
For nearly 10 years, EA has held exclusivity on rights to develop Star Wars games, a deal that many have felt limited the number and kinds of releases that could utilize the license. While the publisher has had a few major successes in the realm, most notably with the recent Jedi: Fallen Order and Squadrons games, there's also been a fraught history of false starts and canceled titles that never saw the light of day.
The formation of Lucasfilm Games was announced earlier this week, a banner and licensor for Star Wars games. Speculation that EA would be losing Star Wars exclusivity was...

Electronic Arts has a license to exclusively create Star Wars games for IP owner Disney until 2023 - but 2023 isn't far away anymore. Along those lines, Lucasfilm Games has announced that Ubisoft and Ubisoft's in-house developer Massive Entertainment will create an open-world, story-driven Star Wars video game. The game will run on the proprietary Snowdrop Engine, and Massive Entertainment Managing Director David Polfeldt and Creative Director Julian Gerighty will lead the development. (Massive is the developer of The Division.) Zero details have been revealed about the open-world Ubisoft...

When the formation of Lucasfilm Games was announced earlier this week , it begged the question of what exactly that meant for EA's exclusivity contract on Star Wars titles. Speculation about Lucasfilm licensing the brand out to other publishers and developers was right. Ubisoft Massive Entertainment, the studio behind The Division series, is working on a story-driven open-world Star Wars game using The Division 2's Snowdrop Engine.
The Division 2 director Julian Gerighty will serve as director for this untitled project, though don't expect news or updates for a while yet. Massive is still...

Star Wars Open World Game In Development With Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment
The Star Wars galaxy is expanding outward again, as a new open world game is in development at Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment studio-not at EA.
The newly rebranded Lucasfilm Games is hitting the ground running, first by announcing a new Indiana Jones game with Bethesda yesterday, and now the new Star Wars title today. Massive Entertainment, makers of The Division and Assassin's Creed: Revelations , have recently begun work, and still recruiting, so details are sparse.
EA is no longer the exclusive...

Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment, makers of Tom Clancy's The Division and Far Cry 3 , is working on a new Star Wars game together with the newly re-formed Lucalfilm Games studio. Since this is the first bit of news and the game is very early days, there's naturally no mention of release time frame or platforms.
The Ubisoft Star Wars game is planned as an open-world, lore-heavy entry telling an original story in the Star Wars universe, and Massive is building it on the Snowdrop engine used for Tom Clancy's The Division 2 and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle .
The unnamed Star Wars project is...
